This is not a paywall pitch
Substr is being built around a simple idea: the internet should still be able to feel open, human, and worth coming back to. That means building first around communities and conversation, not around ads, growth hacks, or attention traps.
Support is not about locking the product behind a price tag. It is about helping keep the platform free to use while it grows, gets more reliable, and keeps moving toward a version of the web that feels more alive again.
A lot of time, care, and personal money has already gone into Substr. This page exists so support can be explained honestly instead of awkwardly reduced to “please donate.”
If this project resonates, the hope is to make support feel more like backing a direction for the web than tossing money into a vague jar.
What support means here
Help keep Substr independent enough to explore a better shape for public conversation before rushing into the usual monetization patterns.
Help fund product work that usually gets delayed when resources are tight: reliability, speed, moderation tooling, mobile polish, and infrastructure that can actually carry the product forward.
What support goes toward
If people choose to support Substr, it should be clear what that support is helping make possible.
Infrastructure upgrades
A live product needs room to breathe. Support helps cover database growth, backups, monitoring, and the less glamorous reliability work that keeps the platform stable.
Own relays and network reach
Substr is meant to feel open and durable. Running more of the relay and network layer ourselves helps reduce dependence on borrowed infrastructure over time.
Media and hosting headroom
If Substr keeps expanding into richer media, creator spaces, and community archives, that means more storage, delivery, and bandwidth costs behind the scenes.
Time to keep building
A lot of the real cost is time: design, bug fixing, product polish, moderation tools, mobile refinement, and the many invisible hours that make the platform feel coherent.
Support via Lightning
If you want to support Substr today, Lightning is the simplest direct route. It keeps things light, native, and aligned with the kind of internet this project is trying to grow into.
Small support is welcome too. This is not framed as a giant campaign, just a clean way to back the work while the bigger public support paths are still being set up.
Built first, monetized carefully if ever
The current goal is not to cram revenue features into the product before it deserves them. The goal is to keep making Substr better while preserving the feeling that drew the project into existence in the first place.
That includes stronger community tools, better reading and posting flows, more reliable infrastructure, and eventually a wider path for creator-led or show-led spaces that want a calmer home than a moving feed.
Geyser is planned, not live yet
A Geyser Fund page is planned so people who resonate with the vision can support Substr in a more public and Bitcoin-native way.
That campaign does not exist yet, so there is nothing to click through to today. This section is here intentionally as a placeholder for what is coming next, not as a fake button or dead promise.
Support does not only mean money
If the project resonates, sharing it with the right people, testing it seriously, reporting rough edges, or helping shape the early culture can matter just as much as financial support.
